"I want to say thank you
for the beautiful job you did on my prints in preparation for last weekend's Open Studio tour. I did quite well in the sale of my prints, greeting cards and bookmarks

Thank you also for the suggestion to
enlarge some of the images. They
were displayed prominently
and received lots of attention"

--Elizabeth S., Oakland

Giclée! The word giclée is neologism coined in 1991 for fine art digital prints made on high-end inkjet printers using archival pigment inks. Derived from the French word for spray, the term giclée refers to the technical manner in which the ink jets spray pigmented inks onto specialized coated archival substrates.

Giclée prints are also called archival pigment prints, a term we rather like better.

Photolab Studio Prints
are made with archival pigment inks that are suspended micro-encapsulated substances with extremely pure color characteristics and high end watercolor papers or canvas. This is in contrast to inks found in low cost desktop inkjet printers. Our staff of print-makers have been studying digital photo technology and working in the industry since its earliest days in the 1990s.

Silver Gelatin! As a photo lab business, we started out as a primarily black and white custom photo lab. Since 1970, Photolab has been working with photographers to print and to show-case traditional photography using traditional materials such as Ilford Multigrade Fiber Based Classic. We also offer the popular Ilford Fiber Based Warmtone and Cooltone as well.

Each year we print artists' entire exhibitions to be shown in museums and galleries. Today, our traditional darkroom is still busy as the value of silver gelatin prints increases (and becomes more rare!) Our skilled techs have years of fine art experience that keeps the magic of silver photography alive and thriving.

Art Reproduction  Photolab will scan and master a digital image of your original artwork. Watercolor, charcoal and pencil drawings, oil paintings and mixed media all lend themselves well to this technique.

Our art reproduction process allows you to make unlimited (or limited edition) prints in sizes larger, smaller or the same as your original. Our giclee printing studio uses high end Epson and Canon printers, custom software rips, proprietary profiles  and hardware calibration throughout.

Toy camera fans will be amazed at our fast film processing and the unique borders you can get for your Holga, Diana and Lomo prints. Stereo 3D Holga owners can even order stereo prints from us.
